The search for absolute darkness

2018, cardboard, diverse pigments, 19 x 28.5 cm

The search for the absolute black, which is the abysmal, the abysmally dark, insatiable that eats everything and leaves nothing behind.

There is a dark gap. A hole, a cesspit, swathes of smells that penetrate towards the light, but the lightning is lost in the dark. It finds no point of reference. Not a straw could be drawn from these pits.

Darkness can be physical as well as spiritual. It can be found in isolated villages and narrow mountain valleys of the Alps of Carinthia, where the human being is reduced to the essential. Where you do not talk about important things but keep silent. Where feelings are dismissed as sensitivities and where, at the same time, abysses open up beneath the surface.
